Former vice-chancellor of Magadh University arrested

 


Patna, June 5 (IANS) The Bihar Vigilance Bureau on Friday arrested former Magadh University vice-chancellor Arun Kumar for alleged irregularities in the appointments of 12 college principals in 2012-13, an official said.

The vigilance team also arrested Parveen Kumar, principal of Ram Lakhan Singh college in Bakhtiyarpur in Patna, in connection with the case.

Additional director general of the bureau Ravinder Kumar said Arun Kumar was arrested after evidence found against him during an ongoing probe.

Arun Kumar and Parveen Kumar were arrested from their residences in Patna and were produced before a court, a vigilance official said. The court sent them to jail till June 16.

The Patna High Court in April ordered a vigilance probe into the appointment of 12 principals of Magadh University.

The court directed the additional director-general, vigilance, to take control of all the records, including the inquiry committee report.

The vigilance bureau has registered an FIR against 25 Magadh University functionaries, including Arun Kumar.
