Nitish, Lallan greet 68-year ‘young’ Lalu on birthday

Patna,(BiharTimes): By claiming that he is still young Lalu Prasad on Thursday––that is his 68th birthday––wanted to convey the message––both to rivals and new-found friends––that he is sitll very much relevant in politics.

Though he did not say that he would bounce back to become chief ministerial candidate if he gets acquitted like Jayalalithaa the message was very much there.

What is strange is that Lalu said these words to the media when those who came to greet him on the occasion of his birthday included once estrange ‘Chote Bhai’ Nitish Kumar as well as road construction minister Lallan Singh. Ironically the latter was among the petitioners in the fodder scam case. It is on this petition that Lalu was convicted and thus lost his membership of Parliament and can not be the candidate for the post of CM.

Mind it, Lallan Singh had also lodged a defamation suit against Rabri Devi as she, during the 2009 Lok Sabha election campaign, made some objectionable remarks against him.

It was only after RJD and JD(U) came closer last year that Lallan Singh withdrew the case against Rabri Devi.

Political observers are of the view that more than Nitish, it was Lallan’s presence at Lalu’s place on this occasion which came as a surprise. “It is political compulsion of Lalu Prasad, Nitish Kumar and even Lallan Singh which brought them together,” said a commentator adding that all three have grown weak.
Strange are the ways of politics.
