Nitish violated poll code of conduct: Bihar BJP leader

Patna, June 18 (IANS) The BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for "violating" the Model Code of Conduct for the biennial elections to the legislative council and alleged misuse of government funds and resources.

"Nitish Kumar and his government are misusing government funds and resources to ensure victory from 24 local authorities' constituencies," Leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav of the Bharatiya Janata Party told media after he formally lodged a complaint with the state Election Commission (SEC) here.

Yadav said the Nitish Kumar government through 'Badh Chala Bihar' campaign was trying to influence elected panchayat members for the council elections, which is an "open violation of the Model Code of Conduct".

Nitish Kumar launched the high-tech 'Badh Chala Bihar' (Bihar moving ahead) initiative last week to directly reach out to the masses and seek their ideas and suggestions for the state's development.

"The BJP will soon file a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner of India as well," the BJP leader said.

According to Yadav, the SEC announced the date of elections to the 24 legislative council seats on June 4 while the chief minister launched the 'Badh Chala Bihar' campaign on June 9.
