BJP’s mysterious silence over Anant Singh episode

Patna,(BiharTimes): If a one-man army of Pappu Yadav can protest so strongly against the incident in Barh and RLSP MP Arun Kumar can warn Nitish Kumar of dire consequences why is the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders not speaking against the Mokama don.

The truth is that saffron party leaders can not af-ford to antagonize Bhumihar voters by giving any statement in favour of or against Anant Singh. Be it Sushil Kumar Modi or Nand Kishore Yadav they did blame Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad responsible for the rise in crime, be it in Barh or anywhere else, but they are yet to criticize the ‘goondagardi’ of Anant Singh.

In fact they had hardly spoken anything against him in the past too. Anant Singh and his men were busy violating all the norms and rules of the Patna Municipal Corporation and indulging in all sorts of crimes when the BJP had been sharing power with the Janata Dal (United). Not only that the important portfolio of PHED was most of the time in the hands of the BJP ministers, including Sushil Kumar Modi.

They never said anything even when Anant Singh’s men brutally thrashed journalists and cameramen in Patna a few years back.

When the then social welfare minister Parveen Amanullah raised the issue of encroachment of a park by a hotel owned by Anant Singh the BJP leaders remained mute spectators though the Lok Sabha election was not far away and they would have easily cashed in on the issue.

When Anant Singh called the then chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi ‘pagal’ (mad) and even threatened to beat him the BJP leaders did not condemn the JD(U) strongman. So can today can they question Nitish’s silence on the same issue. In fact they indirectly supported Anant Singh then by flaying Jitan Ram Manjhi for the statement that the upper castes are outsiders.

If the BJP leaders can keep their lips tight over Anant Singh how can they blame Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad for promoting criminals in the state?

But the BJP leaders were caught in an embarrassing position on Saturday when the RLSP state chief and Jehanabad MP, Arun Kumar, while holding a joint Press conference with his state BJP and LJP counterparts Mangal Pandey and Pashupati Kumar Paras warned Nitish Kumar that the people of this caste (Bhumiars) would break the liver (‘kaleja tod denge’) of those victimizing them.

This utterance by the RLSP MP in the presence of the BJP leader made it clear that the NDA stands solidly behind Anant Singh for the sake of the votes of this caste.

True both the Janata Dal (U) and RJD leaders have been soft towards one Bhumihar strongman of Mokama or the other––brother Dilip Singh during Lalu era––the BJP silence has always been meaningful.

When Pappu Yadav and Sadhu Yadav were in the Lalu camp they were evil incarnates but when they meet Narendra Modi they become angels and media waste no time in highlighting them. The party has always adopted aggressive posture against RJD don Mohammad Shahabuddin, but never spoke anything against all the JD(U)-BJP strongmen when they were together in power.

The moment  Nitish snapped ties with the BJP the same dons of JD(U) became criminals and hated figures.

The saffron party refused to say anything on the killing of the founder president of Ranvir Sena, Brahmeshwar Singh alias Mukhiyaji and subse-quent violence in Ara and Patna. The party did not criticize the role of Janata Dal (United) MLA Sunil Pandey then. All this happened when they were very much in the government with the same Nitish Kumar.

The truth is that “Ek hammam mein sab nange hain (all are naked in the same bath-house or swimming pool.”)
