Both BJP, JD(U) watchful over Lalu’s ‘homecoming’

Patna,(BiharTimes): With Lalu Prasad Yadav fully recovered from heart operation and then got the seventh and the last daughter married he is likely to pay more attention in his home state of Bihar. In a way he has lost his ‘base’ in New Delhi as his official bungalow allotted to him had been taken away. Neither he nor anyone of his family member is member of Parliament.

But Lalu’s concentration on Bihar may come as a challenge not only to the arch-rival the BJP, but also to the ‘Chote Bhai’ Nitish Kumar. No doubt the relationship between the JD(U) and RJD is cordial yet what is causing some discomfort in the JD(U) camp is the way in which Lalu Prasad, a couple of days back, described former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

True Lalu’s comment that Manjhi is a ‘good’ man can be equated with Mark Antony’s famous line Brutus in an 'honourable’ man in William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar. But if Lalu really thinks some goodness in Manjhi than it may cause problem to Nitish. True, his party strongly supported JD(U) in the oust-Manjhi move, but the recent statements by some of the RJD leaders have alarmed the ruling party in Bihar.

Unlike Nitish and company Lalu has not slammed his door on Manjhi. He has not strongly criticized him. His party may not be averse to have a truck with Manjhi if the BJP leaves the Hindustani Awam Morcha high and dry. Last week in New Delhi Manjhi, for the first time, criticized the BJP for not backing him during the trust vote.

But then both BJP and RJD are closely watching Manjhi. Much depends on whether his Dalit magic works or not.But two things are clear: the issue of merger of the parties of Janata Parrivar seems to have been put on the back burner. And none of the RJD MLA or MLC is going to join the Nitish cabinet in the near future––at least till the Assembly election.
