Pappu, Rama Devi, O P Yadav are best performing MPs from Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, Rama Devi and Om Prakash Yadav have been selected as the three ‘best performing’ MPs from Bihar in the 16th Lok Sabha.According to the performance data of PRS Legislative Research, an independent research initiative, which closely tracks Parliament, these three MPs have excelled in three separate parameters of Lok Sabha activity.

Pappu Yadav, 53, the RJD MP from Madhepura, has participated in 57 Lok Sabha debates in the present House so far. This is highest for any of the 40 Lok Sabha MPs from Bihar. In fact, it is the highest for any sitting MP in the entire 16th Lok Sabha.

Rama Devi, 66, the BJP MP from Sheohar, has asked the maximum number of questions among all Bihar MPs. She had asked 131 questions in the past over nine months. She said that in the 15th Lok Sabha (2009-14) too she had won the ‘Sansad Ratan’ award.

She first got elected as the RJD MP in March 1998. However, later in June the same year her husband and former minister in the Lalu-Rabri regime, Brij Bihari Prasad, was shot dead in IGIMS in Patna.

Om Prakash Yadav, the BJP MP from Siwan, made his mark by moving the highest number of private member bills–– 10 till now in the 16th Lok Sabha.Maharajganj BJP MP Janardan Sigriwal, (also from Bihar) with six bills is the second.

Om Prakash, 50, defeated Hena Shahab, wife of jailed former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, in the 2009 as an Independent. However, he repeated the performance in 2014 as the BJP candidate.

He credited his success to his luck as private members’ bill applications are chosen through a lottery system. It was sheer luck that he won this lottery on 10 occasions over the past nine months.

Incidentally, there are four Bihar MPs, who have not participated in any debate or asked any question or moved any private member’s bill in this period. They are Shatrughan Sinha (BJP-Patna Saheb), Janak Ram (BJP-Gopalganj), Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaisar (LJP, a BJP ally-Khagaria) and Mohammad Taslimuddin (RJD-Araria).
