After PM, Nitish meets all the non-BJP bigwigs in Delhi

Patna,(BiharTimes): After meeting prime minister Narendra Modi, the Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Thursday evening met Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. On Friday he went to Tihar Jail to meet incarcerated leader of Indian National Lok Dal, Om Prakash Chautala; called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi; had a lunch with the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and then went to the Delhi residence of Lalu Prasad.

Nitish later told the mediapersons that he went to meet Chautala on a personal basis. “We had a long association. He is an old and seasoned politician and had to undergo this predicament in this age,” he regretted. He supported full state status for Delhi.Kejriwal said that it was just an official visit and no politics was discussed.

Reports from Delhi suggest that meetings with Mulayam, Chautala and Lalu have much to do with the mega-merger of the parties of Janata Parivar. The issue was put on the back-burner, especially after the open challenge posed by the then chief minister of Bihar, Jitan Ram Manhi.

In his meeting with Sonia Gandhi the Bihar chief minister reportedly discussed the strategies to counter the BJP.Strongly rejecting any proximity towards the BJP the secretary general of Janata Dal (United) K C Tyagi told the media that too much political meaning should not be attached to the meeting between the prime minister of the country and chief minister of Bihar.

As these meetings with the non-BJP leaders came soon after his ‘courtesy call’ to Narendra Modi, the Bihar CM wants to scoff all such rumours of his going soft towards the saffron party.
