BJP MLAs protest in House over lathicharge on ABVP activists

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs raised slogans inside and outside the state Assembly on Friday to protest against what they call brutal police lathicharge on the unarmed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists.

They said that the ABVP is fighting against anarchy in the field of education in the state. Instead they were thrashed. The Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, said that the students of Bihar would take revenge for this barbaric police action. What is sad is that this government is in fact the product of the students’ movement of 1974.

The leader of opposition in the state Legislative Council, Sushil Kumar Modi, said that the state government would have to pay a heavy price for the merciless beating of the ABVP workers as the then government had to go after the 1974 lathicharge on students in Patna.

Water resources minister Vijay Chaudhary, while speaking on the issue in the Assembly, said that the way the proceedings of the House are being disrupted is regretful as lakhs of rupees are spent on them.“After all what the opposition parties want,” he asked. “If this is not dictatorship than what is”.He said that rumours of death of an ABVP activist was deliberately spread at the time of lathicharge.

According to the minister the BJP MLAs wanted an excuse to boycott the House as some of the saffron party leaders have come from Delhi. They went to greet them by creating such a scene. This is tragic. He said that the police showed a lot of restraints on Thrusday. One can see the entire video-clippings and come to the conclusion as to how they behaved. Each and every member should watch it.

Meanwhile, ABVP workers took out protest demonstrations against Thursday’s incident and burnt the effigy of chief minister Nitish Kumar at different towns of Bihar.
