Playing economic card to score political goal

Patna,(BiharTimes): It is the story of love-hate triangle between Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad. So when Bihar chief minister had a ‘courtesy call’ to prime minister on Thursday analysts started reading too much into it as the meeting came just a couple of days after rumours spread like a jungle fire in the political circle that the RSS had asked the BJP bigwigs to restore its ties with the Janata Dal (United) in Bihar.

The PM-CM meet, though apparently on the issue of state’s finance, has much to do with the politics as it came close on the heels of two uncomfortable statements from RJD chief Lalu Prasad.Speculations started doing the rounds in the state that the JD(U) and BJP may once again come closer while RJD may distance itself from the ruling party in the state.

After getting all the seven daughters married Lalu Prasad has not gone into a deep slumber. In contrast he is giving sleepless nights to both friends and opponents. The Bharatiya Janata Party is used to his rivalry.

However, it is with his inimitable style that the ‘Bade Bhai’, is causing some embarrassment to ‘Chote Bhai’. It is other thing that Janata Dal (United) secretary general, K C Tyagi, said that friends are not changed in the battlefield and that his party’s bond with RJD and Congress continues to grow strong. Thanks to the abrupt media interpretation, especially by the TV channels, the JD(U) leaders failed to fathom the real intent of Lalu’s criticism of mass copying. In fact it was the first time after June last that he took a potshot at the Nitish government.

Two days after his caricaturing at Buxar he claimed that no government would survive without the support of his party. He went on to state that he can pull any government down if he so wishes. The JD(U) leaders can not say much as the Nitish government is really suriving on the crucial support of the RJD, which has 25 MLAs.

Two days after Lalu’s Motihari remarks a much mellowed Nitish called on the PM to take up the cause of Bihar. This is the first such meeting between him and NaMo after a long time, though they briefly met last month at the marriage of Lalu’s daughter.Incidentally, when the then CM, Jitan Ram Manjhi, met the prime minister in January last the JD(U) leaders questioned it as the meeting took place at the height of turmoil within the ruling party of Bihar. But after Manjhi’s exit the saffron party started ignoring him.

With the Assembly election round the corner any realignment of force can not be ruled out in Bihar. If, and if, the BJP and JD(U) may ever join hands nobody can stop Lalu from inducting Manjhi into his fold. Such a development may make difficult the choice of voters in the state.
