Bihar scores over Jharkhand on doctor’s release, but questions remain unanswered

Patna,(BiharTimes): Apparently the Bihar government has scored brownie points over Jharkhand, where only the body of abducted doctor, Ram Bachan Chaudhary, could reach home just three days earlier.

So the Jungle Raj tag of the Bihar BJP appears more suitable for the saffron party government of Raghuvar Das as Dr Chaudhary’s body was recovered from the forest of Gumla, where he was posted.Incidentally, he is the third doctor to be murdered since the creation of Jharkhand.

JD(U) leaders are saying that the BJP shouting brigade in Bihar has at least been silenced after the recovery of Dr Pankaj Gupta and his businesswoman wife, Shubhra Gupta. They were abducted from the border of Jharkhand and Bihar on May 1 while returning on their Audi car from Giridih. But former Bihar deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi did not hesitateto charge that heavy ransom amount was paid for the release and added that the couple have been released in Dehri-on-Sone and not Lucknow. "Bihar police got the information of release only from the family members" added Modi.

Whether SuMo’s allegation is right or not the Bihar government too needs to answer some questions, which are being raised in the media. Several local journalists are saying that the true story may never be known.

The case of Sohail Hingora, a Gujarati businessman abducted from Daman and brought to Bihar in November 2013 are being cited to buttress this point.Though the Jungle Raj chorus was not raised as RJD was then not supporting the Nitish Kumar government, yet the BJP made a big issue as Sohail not only hails from the then CM Narendra Modi’s home state but also that the incident took place only five months after the NDA split in Bihar.

Anyway Sohail’s abduction, like that of Guptas, drew more media attention than any one in 15 years of the Lalu-Rabri raj. This is the first time that the gang abducted even a woman in Bihar for ransom. Sohail’s father, Hanif Hingora, reportedly secured the release of his 22 year old son after paying several crores.

He had to come all the way to Bihar to make a deal. A big storm was created because of the possible involvement of a ruling JD(U) politician.May be in Guptas’ case no ransom has been paid and the Bihar
police, along with the UP counterpart, might have put pressure on the abductors at Sharda Apartments in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

But the way the doctor and his wife narrated the release raises several questions. It is also true that they were given sedatives so they are unable to recall the story properly.

If he was released in Lucknow and boarded train there how can this happen as the Howrah-Delhi Poorva Express in which they arrived in Gaya on Wednesday does not run via Lucknow. It travels via Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi-Mughalsarai route to Gaya.

The only overnight train from Lucknow to Gaya is Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express, which also arrives in the morning.Another report quoting the doctor said that he boarded Poorva only in Dehri-on-Sone, which is just 86 km from Gaya. So how and why were they brought to this town of Rohtas district?

Another pertinent question is why abductors ensured safe return of couple when they were under heavy police pressure. The travel time from Lucknow to Dehri on Sone may not be less than 7-8 hours (distance about 480 kilometer)

The kingpin Ajay Singh after executing a no. of high profile kidnapping in last couple of years was freeling roaming and doing his task as usual.

Why the news of the release broke only after the couple reached Gaya and why not a day earlier when the Bihar and UP police carried out the operation in Lucknow?Dr Gupta and his wife’s abduction became a big issue as Bihar is going for the Assembly election. After each and every crime the BJP leaders are now discovering the ghost of Jungle Raj as they want to hit two birds with one stone: both Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad. But the only solace for the JD(U) government is that it managed to recover the doctor a day after Nitish Kumar said that it is a challenge for him and that the good governance is always his ‘mantra’. In contrast neighbouring Jharkhand has witnessed a series of high profile crimesever since Raghuvar Das took oath four months back. But he has no such pressure as he has just won the Assembly election.
