Merger not possible before Assembly election: Ram Gopal Yadav
Patna,(BiharTimes): Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, who is also the younger brother of the party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, said on Sunday that the merger of Janata Parivar would not be possible before the Bihar Assembly election due later this year.
Citing ‘technical problem’ he said that if a political party tells the Election Commission that they are going to merge and form a new party, then the original name and symbols of the party would be frozen. The Bihar elections are near and the merger cannot be done in a hurry.
He feared that in such a situation voters of Bihar would be confused. Even five to 10 per cent of votes may prove costly.
So the best option at this point of time is that the Janata
Dal (United) and the RJD contest elections jointly. “We will be signing the death warrant of our party if we do
the merger in haste,” he said categorically.
Sunday’s statement by Ram Gopal Yadav has created a lot of
confusion in the JD(U) and RJD circles. It seems that there
are hurdles on the path of merger and many in Samajwadi Party
are not in a hurry for the merger.
JD(U) national chief Sharad Yadav refused to comment before
the media stating that everything is in the hands of Mulayam
Singh and it would be better to ask him.
