DPS principal denies BJP MP’s charge, says school is open to probe

Patna,(BiharTimes): Denying the charge that Delhi Public School, Patna, is deliberately failing the students to cough up money its principal, B Vinod, said that his institution is ready for a probe into such allegations.

On Wedneday BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal raised the issue in Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha. Upon this Union HRD minister Smriti Irani assured that she would ask the CBSE to conduct an inquiry.

According to the principal, the school has submitted all relevant documents to the CBSE head office to stake its claim on the transparency front. He said the school administration has the documents of all failed students and they had sent the documents, along with answer sheets, on the same day the letter was received from the CBSE headquarters.
“We did not know that the issue was raised in Parliament but we are not worried because we have submitted all the proof. We are ready for any investigation. Someone has a personal grudge to defame our institution,” he was quoted by the Telegraph.
The principal said seven students out of 200 failed to clear exams and were not promoted.

“Around 20 students were in compartmental list scoring less than 33 per cent in the theory paper who were accommodated to give a retest according to CBSE guidelines. The students, who did not clear the re-examinations, had to repeat the class. Of 20, four students failed in that retest,” he added.
“DPS is the only school in the city, which did not charge any registration fee in classes IX and XI. We also do not charge for readmission. Our school is transparent on the ground of financial matters and academics. All the transactions, whether admission fees or fines, were submitted through electronic clearance system,” the principal told the daily.
On Wednesday Jaiswal, while raising the issue, said at least 30 students of the school had to seek psychiatric counseling as two girls developed ‘suicidal tendencies’.“Students were deliberately failed so that their parents could be blackmailed," he had then charged. Such private schools had become a “money-minting” exercise.
What is surprising is that none of the BJP MP raised the issue of DAV School, BSEB Colony, whose four teachers were arrested a couple of months back for deliberately failing a Class-XI girl student. The girl’s father even offered to pay Rs 62,000 to the school but to no avail. The girl then went missing for several days before being traced at the Patna railway station. She even alleged that she was raped by a couple of youths during this period.Even the principal of this school, Ramanuj Prasad, was suspended.
