JD(U), BJP trade charge over farmer’s suicide

Patna,(BiharTimes): The suicide by a farmer of Bihta in Patna district took a political turn with the Janata Dal (United) secretary general, K C Tyagi, and state’s parliamentary affairs minister, Shrawan Kumar, squarely blaming the ‘anti-farmer’ policy of the Narendra Modi government.

On the other hand Union minister Ram Kripal Yadav and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi visited the family members and blamed the Nitish Kumar government for the death.Tyagi told the mediapersons that the Centre’s refusal to increase the Minimum Support Price and its opposition to the
payment of bonus to farmers as well as the new policy on land acquisition are driving farmers not only in Bihar, but all over the country, to suicide.

Shrawan Kumar said that earlier farmers of Gujarat and other states had been committing suicides but now even the farmers of Bihar are being compelled to take the extreme step because of the policy of the BJP government at the Centre.

The JD(U) leaders held the Centre responsible for the acute shortage of urea in the country. On his part SuMo directly blamed the state government for the death of Ramesh, who along with his wife took poison a day earlier. He died while his wife is battling for her life in hospital.

He said that this is the third such suicide by farmers in Bihar and the state government is responsible as both the paddy and wheat crops failed.Blaming chief minister Nitish Kumar the BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav said that the non-payment of dues to farmers by PACS and state government agencies are causing the suicide of farmers. It is not the duty of the Centre to distribute dues to the farmers.
