Flood alert sounded in Bihar after landslides in Nepal

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government on Sunday sounded flood alert in advance in five districts of the north-western part of the state following the creation of a big lake after a massive landslides, triggered by recent earthquakes.


The landslide blocked the Kali Gandaki river at Benibazar in Myagdi district of Nepal, some 200 kms from Valmikinagar barrage near international border, leading to accumulation of a huge volume of water there.According to officials of water resources department around 95 per cent flow of the river has stopped due to the landslides, which have created the artificial lake of about four-km-long and 200-metre wide with about 1.5 million cubic litres of water.


WRD officials of West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran districts have been put on alert. They have been asked to be prepared as a sudden breach in the Kali Gandaki river blockage may increase the water level.
