Gadkari announces water-port in Patna

Patna,(BiharTimes): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced on Tuesday that a water-port would be constructed along river Ganga in Patna to connect it with Kolkata through water way. Speaking at a function organised here by three NDA constituents of Bihar to mark the completion of one year of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government he said that once the water-port is ready, trains would not be necessary for going to Kolkata from Patna. People can easily travel on the Ganga to reach Kolkata. He further added that small planes that could land on water would also be brought.

He promised that Bihar would get roads worth Rs 50,000 crore and the work would start this year itself.According to him there is no dearth of money in his ministry. The only thing needed for such projects is will power and a vision for development.

Gadkari said that his Ministry would open “Driving Training Centres” in all Assembly constituencies across the country, including Bihar.

He said people would learn driving at these centres. The test of their driving skill would not be taken by District Transport Officers (DTO) but by computers. They would have to take the test again if they fail. The Union minister said the Driving Training Centres would cut down issue of bogus licenses where people get them without even visiting the DTO.

He said over 30 per cent licenses in the country are bogus ones. Five lakh road accidents take place in India every year in which 1.5 lakh people die and three lakh are injured.
