Raghuvansh keeps option of CM candidate open

Patna,(BiharTimes): Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said on Thursday that there is no doubt that Nitish Kumar is the chief minister of Bihar and nobody is going to remove him, but added that this may not be the case after the merger or alliance of the two parties.

Talking to the media he said that after the merger or alliance a new situation may arise and anyone can emerge as the chief ministerial candidate.According to him Nitish Kumar is the chief minister of Janata Dal (United) but after the merger the situation would be entirely different and much would depend on the newly elected legislators. They can even elect any third person as the CM of the merged party. In that new situation nobody can thrust one’s own view or candidate unilterally, he said.

Raghuvansh’s statement came only a day after RJD chief Lalu Prasad said that neither he nor anyone from the family is in the race for the post of chief minister. He said that since he is convicted he can not become the chief minister. It is other thing that he may be acquitted like Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha.

Explaining his earlier stand Raghuvansh said that he was making the claim for the seats on the basis of performance of the last year Lok Sabha election. “What would be the basis of seat adjustment or alliance now is a different matter. He conceded that he is a bit worried over the delay in coming together of the two parties and said that even the supporters are asking when it would be finalized. The RJD vice president said that further delay may harm the two parties. More than six months have passed and the
suspense persists, he added.Like Lalu he too supported the induction of Jitan Ram Manjhi, who earlier in the day met prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. He said that efforts should be made to accommodate Manjhi in the new anti-BJP front.

Raghuvansh is not in favour of announcing the CM candidate now. He cited the example of Kiran Bedi in Delhi, whose announcement by the BJP backfired. He reminded JD(U) that the RJD had made several sacrifices to prove that it was serious in fighting the BJP. Even in the Rajya Sabha by-election last year, the RJD extended support to Nitish Kumar’s candidates to ensure the defeat of the BJP.
