Manjhi calls on PM, seeks CBI probe into paddy scam

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday and demanded CBI probe into the multi-crore paddy scam in the state.

Later talking to the media he said that the prime minister assured him of the investigation by the premier agency and that the hurdle in this path would be removed. The Hindustani Awam Morcha leader said he discussed the plight of farmers in Bihar and recent cases of their suicides, which never happened here since independeence. The agitation by farmers of Naubatpur and Bihta in Patna district also came up during the meeting.

Though he ducked any question on pre-poll alliance he said that HAM can join hands with any party or alliance which does not include the present Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. This includes BJP too.He said the tie up between Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar is unlikely to last as RJD voters would not support the Bihar
CM’s party. He accepted that RJD chief did establish contact with him, but there is no question of joining hands till Nitish Kumar is there.HAM leader said that how can Nitish be acceptable to Lalu, who sent the latter to jail and used to call his reign as Jungle Raj. He also said that he can consider Lalu’s plea if the latter declares him (Manjhi) as the CM candidate. It needs to be rcalled that the CBI had, before the Patnahigh court a few days back, expressed its inability to take up the case because of the shortage of hands and other problems.

Incidentally, the son of a powerful Union minister represented CBI in the Patna high court, yet neither the state BJP nor the Centre took any interest in the paddy scam.Though Manjhi downplayed the political angle to the Thursday’s meeting with the prime minister the message was loud and clear.
