Nitish govt now implementing cancelled decisions of Manjhi  cabinet

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though immediately after coming to power  again on February 22 last Nitish Kumar cancelled all the 34  decisions taken by the Jitan Ram Manjhi cabinet in its last  three meetings the chief minister is now one-by-one  implementing most of them.

The cancellation of these decisions not only provided enough  ammunition to his political rivals, but also angered many in  the RJD and privately in his own party, Janata Dal (United).  And those affected, like policemen and homeguards, went on  warpath.

But three months later the Nitish government is gradually  implementing the same decisions. Observers are of the view  that the political compulsion has forced the present  government to take this move. The Assembly election is round  the corner and Nitish can not afford to displease such a  large section of employees.

Recently, his government announced payment of a month’s extra  salary for policemen as ‘honorarium’. This was one of the 34  decisions of the Manjhi cabinet. While cancelling these decisions the Nitish Kumar government  said that “due procedures were not followed” in the matter. It was also argued that the state exchequer did not allow  them.

Now the same government has approved the allocation of land  to the landless poor and also delegated the power to the  district authorities for the proper implementation of this  order.

The state government also announced the grants of Rs10,000 as  incentive to the economically poor students of upper castes  who pass the matriculation examination from the government  schools with first division marks.

Recemtly the state government formed a committee to  regularise services of around 300,000 contractual employees  and also announced 35 per cent reservation to women in police  jobs. These decisions were also taken by the Manjhi cabinet. Implementation of more such decisions of the Manjhi cabinet  can not be ruled out.
