New Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) Janata Dal-United president Sharad Yadav on Thursday said if the central government was serious about reviewing and removing the existing reservation policy, it should hold a special session of parliament to discuss caste-based reservations.

Yadav also took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party for raising the issue ahead of the Bihar polls.

"If the government of the day is really serious, they should call the special session of parliament to discuss only the issue of eradication of the caste system in the country. Till the caste system is prevalent, no one on this earth can remove and review the reservation policy existing in the country," Yadav said at a press conference here.

"I pray that sense should prevail in the leading leaders of the present ruling party to desist from making utterances on the reservation policy," he cautioned.

Yadav urged the BJP to stop debating the reservation issue or other castes too will start demanding reservations before every election.

"Other castes will continue their demand and agitation for reservation especially before each and every election in the country," he said.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Yadav said with this utterance by Bhagwat, there was restlessness amongst the people belonging to reserved classes.

"Consequent upon implementation of recommendations of Mandal Commission, the issue of reservation was settled since the year 1991, and there is no need for anyone to raise it again and again," he said.

"Now not only Bhagwat raised this issue of reservation, but even the prime minister in his first rally of Muzaffarpur in Bihar on July 25 mentioned that Yadhuvansis have been given poison in the state by the previous governments and I am the devotee of Krishna follow the footsteps of Yadhuvansis, and therefore this debate has once again started by the BJP," he added.
