Patna,(BiharTimes): A day after Nishad Adhikar Manch supporters were lathicharged when they tried to break the police barricade to enter the Fraser Road, the Bihar cabinet on Saturday gave its nod to the proposal to include Nishad-Mallahs and Nonias in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
The cabinet decision is significant as it is a major move to woo Nishads, who under the leadership of Mukesh Sahni, on Friday demanded that they be included in the list of Scheduled Castes.
The cabinet gave its approval on 25 other agenda.
Within hours after the lathicharge chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday evening sought report from home secretary and director general of po-lice.
On the other hand the state BJP chief Mangal Pandey and senior leader, Sushil Kumar Modi, went to the PMCH where many Manch supporters are undergoing treatment after the lathicharge. Both the leaders con-demned the lathi-charge and said that it is another example of Nitish Kumar’s arrogance. On Saturday the BJP workers protested against the lathicharge.
The Patna high court had already imposed ban on entry of any proces-sion beyond Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
