Political Fraternity, Answer Us!

Prateek K Anand

Over the years, I’ve come to believe that political fraternity is more interested in self-aggrandizement and less interested in championing the cause of Bihar.  They are just interested in accumulating wealth and power and less interested in doing development in Bihar.

Politicians from Bihar do always have an exaggerated sense of self importance. Perhaps a hangover from JP Movement as most of the present political elite in state is byproduct of that movement.  They wouldn’t hesitate from championing the cause of world and India, less realizing that there are enough people to take care of the affairs of world and our nation. They can do much good to our nation, the world and the humankind, if they can just pull Bihar out of the abyss of underdevelopment, where it has been stuck for a longtime now. Enough of “I will be the prime minister one day dream!”, “He cannot be a prime minister! (Implicitly meaning “only I can be”)”, or “Politicians and ministers from Bihar are running this country so well!” comments.

Political leadership from Bihar is yet to prove its mettle in running the state! My Question for those seeking to rule Bihar this time is that you enunciated how you are going to deliver on the following specifics:
•       Why “Eastern Economic Corridor” from Raxual to Paradip is not being taken up?  This can extend to Kathmandu and even China. India Need to stand up to China, insulating is not an option anymore?
•       Why not initiate action plan for Mekong- Ganga Economic Corridor’ to link South East Asia?
•       Why Bihar is bereft of institute of CSIR, DRDO, CDAC, DSIR, DBT, ISRO, DAE or for that matter research on any advance technologies at all?
•       Why Bihar should not host National Railway University and National University?  Why these should be always located in developed states?
•       Why Postal bank of India should not be headquartered in Bihar? Why not setup office of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority in Bihar?
•       Why Central Institutes like IIT, AIIMS, IIIT, NIT, IISER, CU, SPA, NID, CU should not be set up based on population size or at the least the intake capacity should reflect population of the state?
•       If length of National Highway were to be proportional to area of state then why width should not reflect population density of a state?

•       When the Sapt Kosi High Dam and Sun Kosi Diversion Project will see light of the day?
•       How you are going to take water to every field all through the year?
•       Why projects are not being taken to transfer water from Northern Rivers to reservoir, canals and rivers of south Bihar using large diameter pipes?
•       Why number of Smart Cities should not reflect population a state? Why not take up nine cities of state for smart city project on priority? Are the policies meant to perpetuate only the status quo or are they intended to achieve some desired goals?
•       Why Bihar should not be favoured in setting up of upcoming central establishments in advance research, higher education, PSU units, Quasi-Judicial and Regulatory Agencies, Defense Units?
•       Why no-body is thinking up of Ganga Expressway or Patna-Purnia  Fast track Road and rail Corridor through Samstipur and Sahrsa?
•        Why not have high capacity rail and road bridges to connect Bhagalpur with Seemanchal and Kosi regions directly?
•       Do economic developments happen in vacuum?  What is being proposed as public intervention to create critical mass for self-propagation of economic activity?
•       Why not set up National Skill Development University and National Knowledge University in Bihar?
•       Why Not set up a defense Production Region and Railway Manufacturing Region in Bihar?
•       Tell us five things on which you would focus and deliver to change economy of Bihar?
•       What is inherent competitive strength of Bihar or How in which area it can gain competitive strength in current  and emerging economic scenario.
•       What are the “strategic windows of opportunities” of economic development to which Bihar can latch on to in the near future?
Most of the points made above would require central intervention. I would appeal to the Intelligentsia, Diaspora and Residents of Bihar to leverage MyGov Portal, WritetoPM Grievance Portal or PGPORTAL, DARPG PORTAL, Bihar Governments Grievance Portal and PORTAL of Political Parties to make these issues the talking point of this election, forcing the political parties to commit on a positive plan for development.  Social media should also be widely leveraged to make these issues as the prime agenda of upcoming election. Masses should take away the initiative from political parties and start dictating agenda and tenor of the next election. May people of Bihar win this
election for themselves this time!
