CM concedes irregularities in distribution of scholarship among SC engineering students

 

 

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rejecting the BJP’s demand for the CBI probe chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday accepted that there were irregularities in distribution of scholarship among the SC/ST students pursuing technical education outside Bihar.


Responding to the allegation of BJP members that large-scale of fraudulent transactions have been made in the name of scholarship distribution the chief minister informed the Assembly that the matter was being thoroughly investigated by the vigilance department of Bihar.


He said “prima facie irregularities have been found in distribution of the scholarship. Vigilance department has been asked to identify those involved in it. After that responsibilities would be fixed.
Earlier, the Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar repeatedly demanded a CBI probe into the scholarship scam.


A large number of Dalit students, about 60 of East Champaran district alone, studying in Bhubaneshwar-based Raajdhani Engineering College informed the Bihar government in January last that they had not received scholarship amount for the last over a year.


As they faced ouster from college they threatened to commit suicide if their cases were not taken up.
Meanwhile, during Zero Hour Prem Kumar and Nand Kishore Yadav raised the issue of non-release of funds under the Kabir Antyeshthi Yojna, Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojna and non-distribution of five dismal of land among Mahadalit families.
