Big rise in liquor licence applications in bordering districts of Jharkhand

Patna,(BiharTimes): Following the imposition of ban on country-made liquor not only the demand of ‘toddy’ and cough syrup is rising in Bihar the number of applicants for liquor licenses in neighbouring Jhakhand, especially on the bordering districts, has witnessed a big jump in the recent weeks.

Reports from Ranchi said that the rise in application brought additional amount as license revenue. The department collected around Rs 58 crore in March, against Rs 40 crore in March 2015.

Not surprisingly, of Rs 18 crore revenue growth, Rs 17 crore has come from 10 districts bordering Bihar.
Revenue growth were more than two-fold in Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Garhwa, Palamu, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Sahibganj and Godda––from Rs 13.71 crore in last March to Rs 30.71 crore this March.

This suggests that those having liquor shops in bordering districts of Bihar are planning to shift it to the neighbouring state.

Similarly, police in Sasaram seized thousands of bottles of cough syrup on way to Gaya. Cough syrups are often taken by addicts, especially in the absence of liquor.
