FIRs lodged against Congress MLA after sting operation showed him making liquor-ative boast

Patna,(BiharTimes): Two separate FIRs have been lodged against the Congress MLA––one at Pataliputra police station in Patna and another at Shikarpur police station in Narkatiaganj, West Champaran district––following a video sting operation telecast by television channels on Monday that purportedly showed the legislator, Vinay Verma, boasting that he could get liquor for his guests.

A joint team of police and excise officials raided the residence of Vinay Verma in Narkatiaganj on Tuesday. Raids were also conducted at his house in Patna.

However, the raid did not yield anything objectionable.

Possessing liquor is an offence under Sections 47 (A) and 53 (B) of the Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act, 2016, and have been made the basis of the FIRs. It entails imprisonment for at least 10 years, which could be extended to life imprisonment, as well as a fine of Rs one lakh, which could be increased to Rs 10 lakh.

The sting was first shown on India Today channel, followed by Aaj Tak, on Monday.

The lawmakers of Bihar had taken an oath on March 30 in the legislative Assembly that they would not consume liquor.
