Half of ruling Grand Alliance ministers, legislators are habitual boozers, charges SuMo

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has charged that about half the ministers and legislators of ruling Grand Alliance, especially of Janata Dal (United) are violating the new prohibition law as they are habitual boozers.

Thus their action put a big question mark on chief minister Nitish Kumar government’s commitment to fully enforce prohibition in state, he added.

Commenting after FIRs were lodged against the Congress MLA of Narkatiaganj, Vinay Verma, he told mediapersons on the sidelines of Janata Darbar that this is not only an isolated case. There are many JD(U) and RJD legislators who are habitual boozers, he charged. In the process he even named a JD(U) MLA.

He dared Nitish Kumar to take strict action against Verma.

Sushil Modi claimed that no BJP lawmaker was a habitual drinker. He went on to add that if the media has any doubt about BJP MLAs/MLCs not adhering to prohibition rules, they can find out or even go for sting operation on them.

SuMo pooh-poohed Nitish’s claim that with enforcement of prohibition in the state, the crime rate has fallen, so has the number of accidents.

He questioned as to how the chief minister can make such claims when even a month has not passed since total prohibition has come into force.
