Hike in VAT may not compensate for the loss of revenue after
imposition of prohibition

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though the state government has hiked value added tax (VAT) on many items and is expected to bring in an additional Rs 1,000 crore in this financial year yet  experts are doubtful whether it would be able to compensate for the loss made by the fall in revenue due to implementation of total prohibition on April 5.

It has alrady been reported that internal revenue in the first quarter of the current financial year (April to June 2016) has declined by 33.06 per cent––from Rs 6,091 crore to Rs Rs 4,077.31 crore.

The excise revenue collection has come down from Rs 897 crore in the same period last year to just Rs 42.27 crore this year.
