Flash flood in Falgu, two swept away

Patna,(BiharTimes): Two persons were swept away in a flash flood in Falgu river in Gaya district on Friday morning.

Heavy downpour in the highland of Chatra district in Jharkhand, from where the river originates, caused sudden flooding in large areas of Gaya and Jehanabad districts of Bihar.

One of the two who lost his life was identified as Binod Kumar Singh of Gaya.

State Disaster Relief Force has been pressed into service and efforts are on to evacuate people from the affected villages.

According to principal secretary Disaster Management Department Vyasji Mishra, water level in Falgu river is now receding and the situation is likely to improve.

Other rivers flowing down to Bihar from Jharkhand plateau to Bihar, like Sone, too are in full spate. Alert has been sounded in Rohtas, Aurangabad and Arwal districts too.

West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Khagaria, Sitamarhi and Gopalganj districts have till now 30 to 50 per cent less rainfall.
