Mercy pleas of Bara massacre convicts reach Rashtrapati Bhawan




Patna,(BiharTimes): The mercy petitions of the four convict of the Bara massacre case of February 12, 1992 have reached Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Their death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2002.

In all 35 upper caste Bhumihars were slaughtered in Bara village of Gaya district by the then Maoist Communist Centre, which is now known Communist Party of India (Maoist). The massacre came in retaliation to the earlier killings by Savarna Liberation Front, the earlier version of what is later called Ranvir Sena.


Krishna Das alias Krishna Mochi, Nanhe Lal Mochi, Veer Kuer Paswan and Dharmendra Singh were sentenced to death.

Media reports from New Delhi said that their mercy petition reportedly went missing in 2014. However, the Union home ministry managed to trace it out after much efforts and sent it to the President.

Several human rights organizations have appealed to the President Pranab Mukherjee requesting him to commute the death sentence.
