Nitish to address anti-Narmada dam meet in Madhya Pradesh

Patna,(BiharTimes): After calling for an alternative to Farakka Barrage, as it aggravates the flood situation in his state, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has decided to back the anti-dam movement led by, Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA).

According to reports Nitish Kumar would reach Badwani in Madhya Pradesh on September 16 to lend his support to the people displaced by the dam.

They are protesting against what they call “fake rehabilitation” by the Madhya Pradesh government under the banner of NBA on the bank of Narmada river at Rajghat.

The NBA is fighting for the rehabilitation of more than 15,000 Narmada dam oustees, who are yet to be resettled.

NBA leader Medha Patkar met Bihar chief minister sometimes back to seek his support on the issue. She reportedly applauded Nitish’s efforts to impose totalprohibition in Bihar.

Observers are of the view that this would be the first time in recent months that Bihar chief minister would be going out of the state for any campaign other than prohibition.

Of late he had toured a number of places in poll-bound UP and Jharkhand to muster support for his anti-liquor campaign.
