Lalu seeks quota for the post of VCs

Patna,(BiharTimes): Stating that there must be open competition for recruitment of university, college and school teachers RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday demanded 27 per cent reservation for other backward classes (OBCs) in appointment of vice chancellors in central and state universities across the country.

Talking to the media on Sunday Lalu said the government should scrap the existing provision of teachers’ eligibility test (TET) because it consumes much time. Instead, it should opt for open competition, preferably through the Bihar State Staff Selection Commission.

According to RJD chief thousands of aspirants for the post of teachers are running from pillar to post despite qualifying the TET. There would be transparency once the appointment is made through open competition. He said private training colleges have fleecing money from the poor students in the name of teaching.

The RJD chief was talking to the media a day after the state education minister Ashok Chaudhary met him.

Uncertainty is looming large over the recruitment of teachers at universities in the state after the state government directed the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to stop the recruitment.

This had happened after Lalu demanded 80 per cent quota for the candidates from Bihar. In some subjects, especially English, many candidates from outside the state got selected.
