No ceiling on volume of paddy sale in Bihar this year: CM

Patna,(BiharTimes): There will be no ceiling on the volume of paddy sale. The government will purchase as much paddy as the farmers bring to sell at the paddy procurement centres.

Stating this at a rally organized during the Nishchay Yatra at Govindpur in Katihar district on Saturday the chief minister said that the state had got a good yield of paddy this year. Even a landless farmer involved in sharecropping can sell as much as 50 quintals of paddy.

However, he pointed out that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) had recommended purchase of paddy which did not have moisture beyond 17 per cent.

But, Nitish said, that during the course of inspection, he found that paddy still has 22 per cent of moisture.

Like elsewhere in his campaign Nitish reiterated his commitment to enforce prohibition. In this regard a human chain, longest ever in the world,  would be formed all across the state on January 21.

Nitish appealed to farmers to open accounts with the cooperative department that was overseeing paddy procurement. The money against their yield would be directly transferred to their account.
