Bihar government to put restrictions on data usage in educational institutions

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government would put restrictions on data usage on the premises of educational institutions.

As reported many times in the past providing free Wi-Fi in colleges and universities is part of the Seven Resolves (Saat Nishchay) of the Nitish Kumar government adopted as part of its goal to provide good governance.

While colleges would be provided with Internet speed of 10 MBPS, universities and other bigger institutions like IIT would be provided with 20 MBPS internet speeds.

In a Chetna Rally in Purnea last Friday, the chief minister had asked youths to use the facility for downloading books and other learning-related content and not for watching films.

“Downloading one-two movies is okay, but the free Wi-Fi facility in colleges and universities is aimed at helping students download books and learning-related content,” he had then said.

The free Wi-Fi facility in all colleges and universities would be in place by next February.

Beltron, which is an executive wing of the state IT department, has been entrusted with providing Wi-Fi in educational institutions.

According to Beltron officials the free Wi-Fi service would be provided in over 300 colleges and nine universities.

The Information Technology department has decided to put restrictions on data usage in all institutions.
