Thanks to demonetization, fall in state’s expenditure

Patna,(BiharTimes): Against 49.27% in the corresponding period in the last financial year the state government has managed to spend only 37.72% of the total revised plan outlay of Rs 77,427.33 crore by mid-December in the current financial year.

Apart from other factors this fall in figure is being attributed to demonetization as the expenditure has slowed down considerably in the third quarter (Sep-Dec). The notes of high values were scrapped on November 8.

The top five high-spending departments have been road construction (71.87%), planning and development (65.67%), sugar cane (63.70%), PHED (61.55%), and rural works (59.68%). The performance of 18 of the 41 departments has been less than 20%,while that of the remaining 18 departments are in the range of 20 to 54%.

Though the plan outlay fixed for the 2016-17 fiscal was Rs71,501.84 crore, the state government mustered additional resources worth Rs 5,925.49 crore, which increased the plan outlay up to Rs 77,427.33 crore.
