Nitish blames Centre for delay in paddy procurement drive

Patna,(BiharTimes): As the state government has no role in fixing the minimum level of moisture chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday blamed the Centre for fixing moisture content which is coming as a hurdle in paddy procurement drive this season.

Speaking at a Chetna Rally in Sasaram he said the state government was exploring the possibility of introducing dryer system at procurement centres to bring down moisture content in paddy to the required level.

Earlier, the chief minister paid a visit to Muradabad Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) on the outskirts of Sasaram and inspected overnight commissioned dryer at the rice mill run by the PACS. He said the state government would promote dryer system to avoid delay in paddy procurement at minimum support price.

Nitish said a proposal in this regard has been sent to the Centre and added that as a pilot project, some rice mills equipped with dryer system would be attached to the PACS.

In Sasaram Nitish also came down heavily on the stone quarrying mafia operating in Kaimur plateau.

Without naming anyone he blamed the politician-police nexus for the rampant quarrying in the region, which is hazardous for overall environment too.

It needs to be mentioned that raids were conducted on the stone crushers run by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Gopal Narayan Singh in the past.
