Pilgrims progress on foot––in all 1,450 km to reach Patna Saheb





Patna,(BiharTimes): Seventeen Sikh pilgrims from Hajur Saheb in Nanded, Maharashtra,walked all the way to  arrive at Takht Sri Harmandir Saheb in Patna Saheb on Monday to take part in the Prakash Utsav celebrations to commemorate the 350th  birth anniversary of Guru Govind Singh.

They covered a distance of about 1,450km in 40 days, yet they appeared fresh.

The jattha––as Sikh congregation is called––was led by Sant Baba Kulwant Singh and Sant Baba Baldev Singh. They reached Takht Sri Harmandir Saheb at 6:30 in the evening, chanting “Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ka Fateh.”

They started from Nanded on November 17 for this pilgrimage.

They said that their target was to cover 55 km daily to reach the birthplace of Guru Govind Singh and take part on this historic religious occasion. There were more than 100 points where they stayed for refreshments. In Maharashtra itself, they stayed at more than 10 points including Nagpur. In Uttar Pradesh they stayed at Mirzapur and other adjoining places.

They were offered tea, breakfast and dinner by people while some others arranged bonfires for them to keep them warm. Some donated money.

Some other members of the jatha included Sheru Singh,  Badal Singh, Balwinder Singh abd Indori Singh.

The youngest member was 16 year old while the oldest is in 70s.
