Bihar may lose 260 seats in medical colleges

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): The Medical Council of India has decided not to renew the permission for admission to medical colleges of Bihar. The state is likely to lose 260 seats.

Out of these, 160 seats are spread across four government medical colleges.

The national regulator has recommended to the Centre not to renew its permission for admission of fourth batch of the MBBS students against the increased in-take from 50 to 100 at the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College, Gaya, Shri Krishna Medical Eollge and Hospital, Muzaffarpur and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur.

In case of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital the MCI recommended not to renew the permission for in-take from 90 to 100 seats.

In addition the MCI has decided not to renew the permission for admission of students to 100 MBBS seats of the fifth batch of Lord Buddha Kosi Medical College and Hospital, a private institution of Saharsa.

However, it gave its consent to privately-run Katihar Medical College to admit its fifth batch of MBBS students against increase in-take from 60 to 100.

There are in all nine government medical colleges in Bihar. At present they take admission to 950 students.

If the Centre accepts the recommendation the reduction will come into effect from the ensuing 2016-17 academic session.
