Rabri effect? RSS thinking in term of giving up half-pants

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former chief minister Rabri Devi’s words seem to have their impact on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

According to a Times of India report the saffron organization is thinking in term of replacing khakhi shorts with trousers of the same colour.

While addressing the open session of RJD’s national council in Patna on January 17 Rabri Devi ridiculed the dress worn even by elderly RSS workers, especially at the time of morning drill.

The report, quoting sources in the organization said, a discussion is already going on in the upper echelons on the issue of shifting from the present khaki half-pants to trouser in an attempt to reach out to new generation. The organization would take a call on the issue at its three-day Pratinidhi Sabha to be held at Nagaur in Rajasthan between March 11 and 13.

The Pratinidhi Sabha, which meets almost once in a year, is the RSS' highest body to take call on policy matters.

“All policy-related matters are discussed at the Pratinidhi Sabha. Since the issue of making a change in the Swayamsevak’s dress is a policy matter, it may come up for discussion at Nagaur meeting,” the Dakshin Bihar Prant Prachar Pramukh (south Bihar publicity chief) of RSS Rajesh Kumar Pandey, was quoted in the daily.

This is not the first time the RSS has made changes in the dress.

A few years ago, it decided to replace leather belt with a canvas one after objection over the use of animals’ hide in it.

Till 1973, their cadres used to wear military shoes, but it was replaced by regular shoes in a phased manner.
