Nitin threatens to drag Prakash Jha on ‘fictitious’ Bankipur MLA story in ‘Jai Gangaajal’

Patna,(BiharTimes): Three-time BJP MLA from Bankpur, Nitin Navin, who has served a legal notice to film-maker, Prakash Jha, for allegedly portraying him in negative way in film, ‘Jai Gangaajal’, has refused to accept the latter’s apology.

On Wednesday Jha apologised stating that he did not know that there is any Assembly constituency named Bankipur, and that he had no intention to hurt Nitin.

How can a man who unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election thrice and has been in politics did not know that there is constituency, Bankpur, in Bihar, Nitin asked.

But film critics and independent political observers are prepared to give benefit of doubt to Jha, who spends most of the time outside Bihar. They are of the view that he might not be knowing that Bankipur is an Assembly constituency as it never existed before 2010 Assembly election. It was only after the latest delimitation that Banipur came into existence. Earlier, a large part of what is today called Bankpur was known as Patna West, which Navin and his late father used to represent.

Besides, according to them, Nitin was till November 8, only two-term MLA––he has won for the third time now––while the villain shown in the film is fourth-time MLA of Bankipur.

However, Navin has not only served the legal notice to Jha but has threatened to move court soon if the director did not remove the name of Bankipur from the Priyanka Chopra-starrer film.

Jha told newsmen here on Wednesday that he has sent reply to the legal notice and made it clear to the MLA that he had no intention to hurt him. Manav Kaul, who has played the role of the Bankipur MLA in the film, was also present on this occasion.

But if Nitin Navin is still feeling hurt, he seeks apology from him, Jha, who played the role of a police officer in the film, said adding that the story of ‘Jai Gangajal’ was fictitious and had no connection with Bankipur constituency of Bihar.

According to Jha the film script is linked with happenings in the Hindi belt.

‘Jai Gangajal’ is slated to be released in the first week of March.
