Patna,(BiharTimes): The Rashtriya Lok Samata Party on Monday retained the Harlakhi by-election. Its candidate Sudhanshu Shekar defeated Congress nominee Mohammad Shabbir by over 18,600 votes.
Incidentally, Sudhanshu’s father Basant Kushwaha won the November election by just 3,892 votes.

Basant died a few hours before the newly-elected MLAs were to take oath on December 1 last.
While the Congress candidate got around 47,000 votes Sudhanshu bagged about 65,000 votes.

State Congress chief Ashok Chaudhary, while conceding defeat, said that the RLSP candidate got sympathy votes and nothing works in front of sympathy. The verdict is not against or for anyone and that there is perfect unity in the grand alliance.
