Patna, Feb 20 (IANS) Hundreds of commuters were left in the lurch on Saturday as supporters of the Jan Adhikar Party of Pappu Yadav forcibly blocked train services and roads in Bihar protesting the deteriorating law and order.

However, the shutdown failed in Patna as most shops, markets, educational institutions and offices were open, police said.

"The shutdown failed to hit normal life in Patna," a district police official said.

Expelled Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav led hundreds of supporters on to the streets of Patna, violating traffic rules when he rode a two-wheeler without a helmet, while pointing fingers at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for failure on the law and order front.

Armed with bamboo sticks, Yadav's supporters halted trains and blocked roads. He was later detained along with his supporters here.

His supporters and members of the ruling Grand Alliance of the Janata Dal-United and the RJD clashed in Hajipur in Vaishali district.
