Railway budget lacks substance, says Lalu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Dubbing the Railway Budget as ‘halka’ (lacking substance) former railway minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad said on Thursday that there is nothing in it to comment on.

Speaking to the media just after railway minister Suresh Prabhu presented his second rail budget in Lok Sabha he said the railway is on the verge of collapse and the Narendra Modi government is waiting for an excuse to privatize it.

“Indian Railways was the life-line of the country, but under the Modi regime it has got derailed,” he said.
“We do not need Bullet trains…The railways is facing acute financial crunch…Some foreign countries, like Japan, have an eye on the Indian Railways,” Lalu said.

Pointing out towards the mediapersons he said that train journey would become so costly that you people would not be able to travel in it. “I reduced the price of tickets, yet left Rs 60,000 crore surplus. What has happened now. The government is now talking of bailing it out,” the former railway minister said adding “I started bonus, I stopped retrenchment, which started during the Vajpayee rule.”

He regretted that the expenditure of Indian Railways, whom he reared as Jersey cow, is increasing and income falling. There is no safety in train and they are not running on time.
