Two rebel JD(U) MLCs disqualified

 


Patna (BiharTimes): Two more rebel JD (U) legislators on Wednesday disqualified from the Bihar state legislative council under anti- defection law.

Narendra Singh and Samrat Chaudhary were disqualified by legislative council Chairman Awadesh Narain Singh after hearing their case. Singh and Chaudhary was senior cabinet minister in Nitish Kumar and later in Jitan Ram Manjhi government.

"Narendra Singh and Samrat Chaudhary, the two JD(U) MLCs, have been found guilty of violation of anti-defection law and disqualified as under tenth schedule of the constitution," Singh said.

Both of them had joined Jitan Ram Manjhi led Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) (S) and Chaudhary had even contested the Bihar assembly election without resigning as member of the house. Incidentally his father Shakuni Chaudhary was the state chief of HAM (S).

Singh a product of JP movement and considered as close to both Nitish and Lalu was allegedly supported his elder son contesting the assembly polls on BJP ticket while his younger son contested the election as an independent candidate.

Earlier, Sanjay Kumar Singh alias Sanjay Gandhi, the JD (U) chief whip in the Legislative council,) had petitioned the state council chairman for the disqualification of its five rebel members under the anti-defection law.

Last month another senior party leader Mahachandra Prasad Singh was also disqualified on the identical charges. Singh had also contested the assembly election on HAM (S) party ticket without tendering his resignation from the council.

After the state assembly polls taking a tough stand against party rebels ruling JD (U) who openly campaigned against the party candidates. The decision regarding two other rebel MLCs -- Shiv Prasanna Yadav and Manzar Alam is still pending.

Another rebel JD (U) MLC Bhim Singh, had earlier resigned as a member of the upper house of the state legislature and joined BJP during the state Assembly election.

Reacting on his disqualification Samrat Chaudhary sarcastically thanked the chief minister Nitish Kumar for the decision
