JD(U) team to meet EC to seek change of symbol

Patna,(BiharTimes): A delegation of ruling Janata Dal (United) will meet the Election Commission any day after Makar Sankranti to submit a list of its symbols to replace the existing one––arrow.

The party general secretary, K C Tyagi, reiterated that as ‘arrow’ is very much identical with ‘bow and arrow’ symbol of JMM and Shiv Sena, the Janata Dal (United) lost some seats in the recently concluded Assembly election. The party won 71 out of 101 seats.

Assam, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala are going to poll later this year and the party may contest in most of these states independently or in alliance with other parties.

The party is likely to seek one of the three symbols––tree, hut and a farmer wielding a plough.

As reported a JD(U) delegation had met the Election Commission immediately after the Bihar polls result to discuss the issue of symbol. Responding to their demand for the wheel symbol, the EC is learnt to have told them that the it can be given to them if JD (S) does not object to it.

JD(U) is hopeful that it will get the new symbol by the end of January.

The party’s national executive at its meeting in Delhi on December 20-21 expressed concern over the defeat of some of its candidates because of the confusion over symbol.
