Paswan’s greeting cards fail to reach destination, three suspended

Patna,(BiharTimes): The postal department employees of Vaishali district on Wednesday launched an agitation to demand revoking of the suspensions of three of their colleagues. They were suspended as they failed to deliver the New Year’s greeting cards sent by Union food minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, to 500 lawyers and judicial employees of Hajipur, the parliamentary constituency he represents in Lok Sabha.
There were sent from New Delhi on December 18 last and reportedly reached Hajipur on December 24.
According to reports the incident of undelivered cards came to light after a bag full of greetings cards was recovered abandoned on the third floor of district bar council building a couple of days back.
The postmaster of Hajipur post office Lalan Ram, public relations officer Raj Kumar Srivastav and postman Deonarayan Mahto were suspended on Tuesday.
Postal department superintendent, Vaishali division, Umesh Chandra Prasad said during initial investigation postman Mahto was found responsible for the non-delivery of these greeting cards.
However, the postman said that he could not locate the addressees and hence handed over the cards to a bar council peon for delivery.
Prasad said some of the abandoned greeting cards were addressed to lawyers of the bar council at Hajipur.
He further said more than 1,200 greeting cards were delivered to the people concerned by the same postman.
According to him more than 2,000 greeting cards sent by Ram Vilas Paswan had been received in the district on December 24 last. A probe has been initiated into the matter and arrangements are being made to deliver all the cards.
They carried a picture of the architect of the Constitution, B R Ambedkar, and Parliament House and bore the names of Paswan and his wife Reena at the bottom.
The matter reportedly came to light a few days ago after some persons informed LJP workers about a bag full of greeting cards lying abandoned on the third floor of the bar council building near Gandhi Chowk in Hajipur.
