BJP, JD(U) at loggerheads over Karpoori Jyanti venue

Patna,(BiharTimes): The ruling Janata Dal (United) and Bharatiya Janata Party are once again at loggerheads over organizing the birth anniversary of former chief minister Karpoori Thakur at Shri Krishna Memorail Hall on January 24.

Both the parties are now planning to move to the court.

According to the Janata Dal (United) spokesman Neeraj Kumar his party had got the Hall booked just a day after last year’s function. So where comes the calim of the BJP?

Another party spokesman Sanjay Singh said that the BJP booked the Hall on November 21, 2015 and added that the latter has nothing to do with Karpoori Jyanti. It was the erstwhile Jan Sangh, the earlier version of the BJP, which was responsible for bringing down the Karpoori Thakur government in 1979 and when Mandal was implemented in 1990 it was the saffron party leaders who opposed it by organizing a country-wide ‘kamandal rath’.

Sanjay further attacked the BJP for making even Bhagwan Ram a member of the party.

Another JD(U) leader Navin Kumar Arya said that if the BJP is so keen it should honour Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna before Jan 24.

The JD(U) leaders said that the saffron party has a knack to create controversy. Last year too it raised the issue of venue and had to organize the function in Veterinary College ground, they charged.

On the other hand the Rajya Sabha MP of the BJP, Dr C P Thakur, also threatened that his party would move court as the Hall was booked a year back.

Dr Thakur said it is democracy and not dictatorship. Not to speak of any party even if any individual had booked it earlier he should be given preference, the former Union minister said.
