Traders’ body chief writes to Nitish on law and order situation

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Chairman of PHD Chamber of commerce & Industry Bihar, Satyajit Singh, has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state in the last three months.
In a letter to the chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday he wrote:
“During the last three months there is visible slide in the basic functions of state particularly in the area of law and order . The bad news are coming almost from all areas of Bihar and are disturbing to the common people as well as the people engaged in the infrastructure, trade and industry sector. There is urgent need to address law & order issues which is the USP of your governance model as well as the prime responsibility of state towards its citizen. The compromise on governance, governance & governance will spell disaster for Bihar.”
According to the letter “Good governance, development and reduction in taxes and easy taxes are the established trajectory in any developmental model. The recent decision of the government to increase taxes on food items and other items like mosquito repellent indicates that the state which was successful in increasing the own tax collection without any coercive step from Rs 3,561 crores in 2005-06 to Rs 25,663 crores in 2014-15 finding its way tougher in the coming times due to decision to ban desi liquor in the coming times. The government should find another way like rationalisation of tax structure , reduction in government unproductive expenditure and broaden the tax collection net rather to impose on the current basket.”
The letter further said that “the success for a state critically depends on its ability to attract investment . On this parameter two categories of states have emerged in India, the first category of states that are reform driven with an eye to national and international market mainly in south and western part of the country and the second category of states mainly located in Hindi heartlands on the other hand are still carrying the historical baggage of operations by the British and the archaic land tenure system they meant the absence of an incentive structure which could contribute to production and productivity leading to accumulation.”
