Karpoori died of torture, claims Lalu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday made a significant disclosure at the function organized by his party to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of Socialist leader and former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur.

Speaking on the occasion he charged that Jan Nayak died a premature death because of non-stop torture by his political rivals.

According to Lalu it was not the age to die. He was just 64. He died because of torture by his political rivals. The RJD president said that Shiv Chandra Jha was the Speaker of Bihar Assembly when Karpoori was the leader of opposition at the time of his death on February 17, 1988.

RJD chief said that Karpoori was so much tortured––both inside and outside the Assembly––that he would often come to his quarter at Bihar Veterinary College to narrate the woes.

Lalu recalled that when Karpoori became the chief minister for the second time in 1977 a big communal riots was instigated at Jamshedpur (then in Bihar) in 1979 by the saffron brigade. This was done to bring down his government and defame him.

Alleging that RSS and BJP have pathological hatred for Dalits, minorities and backward castes Lalu recollected how Karpoori Thakur breathed his last in his lap while being rushed to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology for treatment.

Flaying prime minister Narendra Modi for what he called shedding crocodile’s tears on the suicide of Rohith Vemula the RJD chief asked why no action is being taken against Union ministers.

The function was addressed, among others, by former Union minister Kanti Singh, former MP, Mangani Lal Mandal, RJD’s EBC cell chief Pragati Mehta, former state minister Iliyas Hussain and former MLC Tanvir Hassan. One of Karpoori Thakur’s son, Dr Birendra Kumar Thakur, was also present on the dais.
