Grand alliance leaders appeal for calm in Hajipur

Patna,(BiharTimes): While Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United) and Congress have appealed to the people of Hajipur to maintain peace the Bharatiya Janata Party has held the Bihar government responsible for what happened in the town in the last two days.

Uneasy calm prevails though the administration on Wednesday evening claimed that the situation is now under control.

The trouble started on January 26 evening when administration started demolishing a temple built on the encroached land on the road at the order of the Patna high court. Soon a crowd gathered to resist the adminstration’s drive.

They pelted stones on the police and targeted their vehicles. Violence continued on Wednesday too.
Though by late evening it subsided.

The SHO of Hajipur town police station has been replaced.

Meanwhile, RJD leader and deputy chief minister Tejaswi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday appealed to the people not to take law into the hands as the district administration is only implementing the high court’s order. Taking to streets and violating the law would not serve the purpose, he added.

Education minister and state Congress chief Ashok Chaudhary too issued a similar statement. He said that law would take its own course if violated by anyone. “The state government is bound to implement the high court order,” he said.

The Janata Dal (United) spokesman, Neeraj Kumar, said that some people relish in breaking the law. They should desist from doing so and should not be carried away by what others say. He too appealed to the people to maintain peace as the state government is only implementing the order of the high court.

However, the BJP spokesman, Vinod Narayan Jha, accused the state government of allowing the situation to deteriorate. He also charged that there is different yardstick to deal a crisis related to a mosque and a temple.
