Relatives of Bihar’s first Dalit CM working as labourers

Patna,(BiharTimes): Relatives of three-time former Bihar chief minister, Bhola Paswan Shashtri, are working as labourers under MNREGA.

According to reports the family members of the first Dalit chief minister are finding it difficult to meet both ends as Shashtri himself lived as a simple and honest man. He never took a penny from the government’s treasury and was left with nothing in his last days.

At the time of his death he had no money for the last rites, and it was left to the district magistrate to make arrangements. Besides, being CM for three times––albeit briefly––he had even served in the Indira Gandhi cabinet at the Centre.

Though Shashstri had no children, his brother’s family members manage to live in the house, which has been converted nto community centre by the state government.

Family-members said that they offered the land to the government without taking any money to make a community center so that it could be helpful for anyone in the locality at time of need.
