Two years after cracking UPSC IAS probationer lands in jail after accepting ‘bribe’

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Dr Jitendra Gupta, a young IAS probationer serving as  SDO in Mohamia in Rohtas district of Bihar created a record of a sort. The 2013 batch IAS ended up in jail early on Wednesday morning for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a truck driver of Haryana for releasing four overloaded trucks.

Reports said that Jitendra, his official driver Sanjay Tiwary and house-guard Ashok Kumar Srivastava, were arrested by vigilance sleuths from office-cum-residence of the SDO in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Jitendra is an Orthopaedic graduate. He was running a hospital in Delhi with annual turnover of over Rs one crore, before cracking IAS.Now his doctor wife runs it. His father is a builder in Firozabad, UP.

After arrest vigilance sleuths took the SDO and his two staff to Patna for production before the designated court. Jitendra was produced before the special vigilance judge on Wednesday evening and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Sources said the SDO had on July 4, unofficially detained four trucks on way to Haryana from Jamshedpur at Kudara on National Highway-2 on the charge of overloading.

However, instead of handing over the trucks to police, he parked them near a line hotel. No seizure list was issued to the truck-drivers.

Reports from Mohania said the SDO allegedly demanded Rs 1.60 lakh for the release of four trucks. The drivers finally agreed to pay Rs80,000.

The drivers informed the vigilance department which, after a preliminary inquiry, lodged a complaint.

Reports also said that on Tuesday evening, the team caught Sanjay and Ashok while counting cash at official residence of SDO. The vigilance team conducted search at the office-cum-residence of SDO and recovered the detained trucks' registration books and other documents.

Reports also said that after a seven-hour-long search and inquiry, the team arrested Dr Jitendra Gupta, Sanjay and Ashok.
